Cretan Cuisine sails abroad



In Chania is the well known Chef James Martin, who under the framework of his cooking shows on British television station, cooked traditional fish soup in the Venetian port of Chania.

Since early in the morning James Martin with the TV crew went to the Municipal Market of Chania where the chef picked the necessary herbs and spices for the soup as well as the ingredients for the salad.

He then went to the Venetian port of Chania, where a fishing boat "bound" with the fresh fish "catch" while o James Martin went to the boat and chose the fish for the soup.

The filming of the cooking of "kakavia" by the British fish chef, took place in the fishing boat at sea of the Venetian port of Chania, while early in the morning the film crew of the show had done a lot of shooting at the Municipal Market and the Venetian port contributing thereby to the promotion and advertising of Chania abroad.

Shooting will be also done to the tombs of the Venizelos, Akrotiri and in a certified traditional Cretan food taverna.

According to the Chairman of the tourist promotion of the municipality's Maria Kokkinaki, the British chef believes that "there was need to highlight the good side of Crete because the British know only the part of Malia and what happens there. They want to show the other beautiful part of Crete, Cretan products, extra virgin olive oil, oranges and the high nutritional value of these."

James Martin, is considered one of the most popular chefs in Britain and its broadcasts are monitored by more than one million viewers.

This broadcast with theme on gastronomy «James Martin's Mediterranean feasts» of the British television station UKTV's will be broadcasting in Britain in October 2011.

The television series will have a 10 cycle broadcasting with shootings in 4 different Mediterranean countries: Greece, Italy, Spain and France.
